Report: Chelsea consider move for 29-year-old as Tuchel not satisfied with his attacking options

Chelsea have reignited their interest in Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha as Thomas Tuchel wants to reinforce his attack in the final days of the transfer window, according to The Independent.

The fact Thomas Tuchel has started the same front three in the first four Premier League games arguably suggests the manager’s lack of options, rather than his being satisfied with their performance.

Raheem Sterling is the only Chelsea forward to have registered at least one goal this season, while Kai Havertz and Mason Mount are struggling to perform.

Obviously, Tuchel still has Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Armando Broja, but if the manager was happy with them, they would have started ahead of Mount and Havertz.

The simplest solution is to look for other options in the transfer market, and this is exactly what Chelsea have reportedly done in the last weeks.

Tuchel reportedly open to potentially ‘expensive’ move for Zaha

The Independent claims that Tuchel wants a focal point in his attack, and Zaha is one of the players on their list.

Zaha is not a natural number nine, but Tuchel reportedly wants a forward line that can “interchange at a pace”.

This might have explained Sterling’s being deployed in the centre-forward role ahead of the likes of Havertz and Broja.

While Zaha is said to be “intent” on joining a top-six club for some time, Crystal Palace are reportedly reluctant to let go of their key player.

Bear in mind, the 29-year-old has scored three of Crystal Palace’s six Premier League goals so far.

However, the Ivory Coast international’s being in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park also leaves Palace in a difficult situation, having previously valued him at over £80million.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also still working on their pursuit of Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but are willing to keep their hands open to other options.
