Report: Chelsea consider transfer pursuit of France international as 'urgent' priority
Chelsea are in pole position in the transfer race for highly sought-after AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to Marca.
The 21-year-old has attracted a lot of interest from top European clubs after having an incredible season at Monaco in 2020/21. He was even named Ligue 1 young player of the year at the end of the season.
The report from Marca highlights that Real Madrid consider the Tchouameni as a potential future prospect.
The La Liga giants are likely going to be in the market for a new midfielder soon, as they will eventually have to replace Luka Modric and perhaps also Toni Kroos.
However, Real Madrid are facing competition from Chelsea who are currently leading the race for the France international, the Spanish media added.
Chelsea have reportedly elevated the pursuit of Tchouameni to an “urgent” category. This might be a surprise to some Chelsea fans given the number of midfield options Thomas Tuchel has both in the squad and on loan.
Tchouameni is clearly one of the most attractive young talents in Europe at the moment, though, so the west London outfit might want to avoid likely bidding wars if they wait for two or three more years.
Cesc Fabregas previously described his Monaco teammate as a “complete midfielder” and it seems to be the case.
Tchouameni predominantly plays as a centre midfielder, but his defensive quality makes him a viable option as a holding midfielder as well.
