Report: Chelsea could still sign £164k-a-week centre back, even after getting Koulibaly and Ake

Chelsea could still reportedly target Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Presnel Kimpembe, even if they secure deals for two current defensive targets.

According to The Telegraph, Blues manager Thomas Tuchel would prefer to bring three new defenders into the club during this summer transfer window.

It is understood a Chelsea attempt to sign Kimpembe doesn’t necessarily depend on existing interest in Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Manchester City’s Nathan Ake.

The report highlights Tuchel’s side remain interested in Kimpembe, so may still try sign him if they can complete deals for centre-back duo Koulibaly and Ake.

Chelsea could still target Kimpembe

It sounds like there may be a major revamp in the Blues defence by the time the 2022/23 season begins.

Kimpembe, who’s a key player for French giants PSG, is yet another high-profile centre-back linked to Stamford Bridge.

The £164,000-a-week star is a left-footed defender that made 41 appearances across all competitions last season for PSG, plus he recently got to captain his national side France.

It’s previously been reported that PSG won’t stand in Kimpembe’s way of leaving if a suitable offer is made for him in this window. Thomas Tuchel would be keen on a reunion after previously managing him in the French capital, too.

CB reshuffle

There may be a complete changing of the guard, especially as Chelsea are reportedly in talks currently for both Koulibaly and Ake.

There’s definitely room in the squad if Tuchel plans to maintain his preferred system of a back three.
