Chelsea could potentially attempt to acquire Barcelona’s Franck Kessie this month as an alternative in their hunt for a new midfielder.
According to the Telegraph, the Stamford Bridge chain of command may well turn to the Ivorian as a ‘short-term fix’ whilst they search for more solid midfield foundations.
Todd Boehly and his team have been trying to add extra depth in this area of the field to Graham Potter’s squad in January.
Buying Enzo Fernandez from Benfica seems to be beyond them, whilst Brighton & Hove Albion are holding firm over letting Moises Caicedo leave for less than £65m.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly rejected an approach from their London rival for Yves Bissouma.
With the winter window gradually closing shut, Chelsea have seemingly shifted their attention to move accessible options.
Could Franck Kessie be heading to Chelsea?
Kessie is a player that has been previously linked to the London club, having reportedly been on their radar during his days at AC Milan.
This was before he joined Barcelona on a free-transfer last summer.
But the 26-year-old has not exactly sparkled in Spain, starting just twice for Xavi in the league so far this season.

He could easily be sacrificed by the La Liga leaders to make room in their squad for potential new recruits.
It wouldn’t be a huge loss on their part, considering Kessie was signed from Milan as a free agent.
Whilst his short career at Barca might not fill Chelsea fans with much confidence, the player’s performances in Italy should not be forgotten.
His tenure at the San Siro included 223 games and an impressive 53 goal contributions from central midfield.

Kessie’s former teammate Vincenzo Montella described him as ‘extraordinary’, a title he hasn’t quite lived up to at the Bernabeu.
But the story might be different in blue…
