Chelsea have enquired about Timo Werner’s potential release clause in January, according to reports in The Telegraph. The German international is one of several attacking targets for the club, and it now looks like the Blues could be pushing ahead with the move.
There have been various figures thrown about in regards to Werner’s release clause, and it seems that Chelsea are seeking clarification on it. The 23-year-old has scored 23 goals and provided seven assists already this season and would solve the Blues problems in attack.

Despite Tammy Abraham’s brilliant start to the season, the club has struggled in some games to create chances. Werner’s speed and clever movement would no doubt help resolve this. Also, his ability to play out wide makes him an even more enticing target for the club.
If the German striker’s release clause is low, then the Blues could well make a move in January. Chelsea are in desperate need of some more forward options. Current deputy forwards Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud are not considered good enough.

After missing out on Erling Braut Haaland, RB Leipzig will do everything they can to keep hold of Werner. Some Chelsea fans have made excitement surrounding links with the German clear on Twitter.
The only question is whether Werner will come to a team that already has an established number nine. Someone of his pedigree is unlikely to want to join a team that cannot give him assurances on first-team football.
