Report: Chelsea face paying more to sign ‘amazing’ defender, his asking price has just shot up

Reports from Italy have claimed that Inter Milan have just upped their asking price for Chelsea to sign Denzel Dumfries.

According to Calcio Mercato, the Serie A side will now ask for more than £50m including bonuses for any side to sign him from them.

The wing-back is enjoying another fantastic international tournament, after being described as ‘amazing’ at the last European Championships by pundit Ally McCoist.

His display against USA in the Round of 16 was a big reason why Christian Pulisic’s World Cup has come to an end.

A goal and two assists for the flying Dutchman helped his side book their place in the next round, where they are prepared for a Quarter-Final against Argentina on Friday.

His attacking abilities that have been so highly praised have been on display throughout the tournament.

Inter up Dumfries’ price

According to Calcio Mercato, these performances have allowed his current club to push up the price if Chelsea return with interest for Dumfries.

There were reports that the Blues were interested in signing the defender this summer, as they faced an exodus of first team stars during the last transfer windows.

After Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left the club, Cesar Azpilicueta pushed to leave the club after a decade at Stamford Bridge.

However, he signed a new deal to stay as the captain, therefore limiting the need to sign Dumfries as a priority.

With the injury suffered by Reece James in the last few weeks of the domestic season before the break, supporters will have loved a suitable back-up to replicate some of what the Englishman brings in attack.

However, a signing in that position would see them fighting with one of the best in the world for minutes at Stamford Bridge, making it unlikely that the top options would choose to join.
