Report: Chelsea leading race to sign £50m PL 'magician', Granovskaia wants the deal to happen

Chelsea have reportedly moved into pole position in the pursuit of Leeds United’s talisman Raphinha.

According to FootballTransfers, the Blues are close to securing a summer deal for the Elland Road entertainer.

Marina Granovskaia is said to be spearheading this move, as she begins to map out the blueprints of Chelsea’s transfer movements in the next window.

Raphinha’s story

Raphinha has apparently been on the Blues’ radar for nearly two years, dating back to his days at Rennes.

Leeds signed the 25-year-old from the French side in 2020 for £17m (BBC).

That price tag has since skyrocketed following his performances as a fully-fledged Premier League architect.

He is without doubt Marcelo Biela’s most influential attacking component, a ‘magician’ in the Argentine’s box of tricks, as Daniel James described.

The enthralling Brazilian leads the way for goals this season with nine to his name, one up from his entire tally last term.

That £17m figure has now risen to a mere £50m (Mirror), such is Raphinha’s colourful importance to the Whites.

However, that fee could change again if Leeds are relegated to the championship.

FootballTransfers claim that the slick-footed forward will be attainable for just £20m.

Some bargain for a player packed full of quality.

Chelsea charge towards the Brazilian

A deal that Chelsea might be unable to resist, especially if they are so intent on raiding Bielsa’s camp and stealing his prized possession.

They are set to face competition for Raphinha’s signature but should feel confident in knocking back any other potential suitors.

Barcelona have seemingly set their sights on the former Rennes man as well, yet must secure Champions League qualification for him to even consider leaving England.

He could be the replacement for Ousmane Dembele, who ironically has been tipped to join Chelsea once his contract expires in June.

Based on the pair’s respective form, surely the Blues will only have eyes for one mercurial talent.
