Chelsea are losing their appeal in the transfer race for Napoli ace Victor Osimhen due to their disastrous season, according to reports in Italy.
Osimhen, who is now leading Serie A’s goalscoring chart with 21 goals from 26 appearances, is expected to be one of the most sought-after talents in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old will enter the final two years of his contract this summer, so Napoli are likely under a little bit of pressure.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, at least four top clubs; Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Osimhen.
At this point, it remains unclear whether Osimhen will switch allegiance since Napoli are reportedly trying to convince him to sign a one-year extension with higher performance-related bonuses.
However, if the striker were to join another club, it would likely be one of these four clubs.
Unfortunately for Chelsea, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that they are currently in an unfavourable position in the race despite Osimhen’s desire to play in the Premier League.
It is all reportedly down to Chelsea’s lack of Champions League football next season.
This is reportedly not something trivial for Osimhen, who is said to be looking forward to playing in this competition again after Napoli’s disappointing quarter-final defeat to AC Milan.
The report adds that Osimhen is still upset that he had to miss out on the first leg against Milan due to a groin injury.
This is hardly a surprise, though, since this would apply to Chelsea’s other targets, too. These top players simply want to compete in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
That said, Chelsea, who have reportedly worked on recruiting the Nigeria international behind the scenes, could still try to lure the player with their project.
Considering the talents they have at their disposal, it should not be long until Chelsea make their Champions League return.
