Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt would reportedly like to play under the management of Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

According to the Evening Standard, the Juventus star is keen on the idea of playing for Chelsea’s 48-year-old coach.

It is understood Chelsea have made an approach during this summer transfer window in their attempts to sign De Ligt, which has seen them emerge as favourites to win the transfer race if Juventus allow his sale.

The report explains why a move to Stamford Bridge is appealing for the 22-year-old centre-back.

De Ligt would like to play under Tuchel

It’ll be a major pull if Chelsea can secure the transfer of De Ligt this summer, who’s been regarded as one of Europe’s elite young defenders in recent years.

He’s a talented Dutch centre-half that’s really grown as a player during his time with Juventus after joining from Ajax.

It’s been reported his Serie A club are prepared to soften their demands over a £102million valuation, which means a sale this summer is now a bit more plausible.

De Ligt, described as “excellent” by Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk in 2019, is a leader in defence that could fill a current major hole in the Chelsea squad.

Tuchel attraction

Chelsea are lucky enough to have one of the very best managers in the business at their helm, so he’s a big part of the package when a player considers a move to Stamford Bridge.

For certain, he’s got the best out of Blues defenders during his 18 months coaching in England.

All of his crop of centre-backs impressed under him, so you can’t blame De Ligt for wanting a piece of that. Tuchel has already worked with some brilliant centre-halves since going into management, too.
