Report: Chelsea make phone call to 26-year-old and ask him to sign for them, but he says no

Chelsea reportedly spoke directly with Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe to try convince him to join them, but he’s set to stay where he is this summer.

According to Le10 Sport, Kimpembe has decided that he wants to remain with PSG ahead of the new 2022/23 season.

It is understood the 26-year-old will remain in Paris, where he’s already won six Ligue 1 league titles in his career.

The report explains Chelsea had a direct phone call with the left-footed centre-back about a potential transfer to Stamford Bridge, but he’s said no to stay put.

It’s worth adding the Blues never actually made a concrete offer for the France international.

Chelsea spoke directly with Kimpembe

It sounds like Thomas Tuchel’s side have fallen short in their attempt to sign the PSG centre-half.

Chelsea reportedly asked their midfielder N’Golo Kante about Kimpembe, with the duo playing together on the international stage with France.

He doesn’t appear to be heading on his way to the Premier League, though.

Kimpembe’s clearly settled with French giants PSG after making 221 first-team appearances for them, so will continue to build his legacy with them moving forward.

Blues defence

With Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both leaving this summer, Chelsea need to find another centre-back recruit before the window shuts.

The door may reportedly be closed on a deal for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, so it feels like the club may be back at square one in their transfer plans to recruit at the back.

Kalidou Koulibaly’s arrival from Napoli has been a big boost to immediately improve the backline. However, there’s a risk of going into the new season a little thin on the ground in that crucial area of the pitch.
