Chelsea could up paying a £50million sum to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this summer.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues are hoping to secure a deal for the 23-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.

It is understood Thomas Tuchel’s side hope a £42million bid may be enough to sign the Sevilla star, but the total package is likely to be closer to £50million with add-ons.

The report says Kounde is “keen” on signing for Chelsea. Also, contract negotiations are expected to be “straightforward” because he agreed personal terms last summer to join the Blues before a transfer fell through.

£50m for Jules Kounde would be brilliant

If Chelsea end up securing Kounde for around £50million, it would be a great start to the summer.

The Blues need sanctions to be lifted on them before they can enter the transfer market, but there was finally some good news involving the takeover story on Saturday morning. Chelsea confirmed in a statement a “definitive agreement” has been reached with the Todd Boehly-led consortium to complete a takeover, which is expected to go through on Monday.

Securing Kounde’s services would be an ideal way to begin the new ownership era.

ESPN pundit Stewart Robson has given a big thumbs up to Chelsea’s reported interest in Kounde, suggesting he will be a great fit in Tuchel’s XI.

He’s a French centre-back that’s been a standout defender in La Liga this season, with plenty of attributes to suggest he can be a good fit in the Premier League.

The Blues desperately need some defensive recruits to help rebuild the backline.
