Chelsea are reportedly growing more confident that N’Golo Kante will sign a new contract with them and won’t leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

According to The Athletic, the Blues have made “positive progress” during contract negotiations with their 31-year-old star.

It is understood that the length of a new deal remains the major obstacle, but Chelsea are working to strike a compromise with the midfielder.

Kante’s future is up in the air right now because his contract expires in the summer, but this latest update should give supporters real encouragement that he’ll stay and extend his time in west London.

Chelsea confident Kante will sign new contract

Journalist Simon Phillips recently claimed that Kante is hoping to reach an agreement to extend his stay at Chelsea.

Everything in the media certainly points towards the Frenchman signing a new deal.

Graham Potter recently explained that “quality” central midfielder Kante may not return from injury until March, which is why some of the fanbase are slowly coming around to the idea of him leaving.

He’s played just two games all season so far and it’s obvious injuries are creeping into his game during the past couple of years.

If fit, Kante can still be one of Europe’s elite midfielders. The chances of him recapturing his top form surely lessen, though, the more these injuries occur.

It would be intriguing to watch him play alongside Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez, who’s a player strongly linked with Chelsea right now. Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Chelsea are pushing hard to sign 21-year-old Argentine midfielder Fernandez.
