Chelsea reportedly think Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar is too expensive for them at his current price tag.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have made their first contact with Italian giants Inter about their 27-year-old star.

The report claims there’s “some distance” between the two clubs over the centre-back’s valuation, though.

It is understood that Premier League and London rivals Tottenham are lurking as another side interested in Skriniar, with Spurs boss Antonio Conte hopeful of reuniting with his ex-player.

The Mail’s report mentions the £200million transfer war chest available for Chelsea to spend in this summer’s transfer window, but it’s unclear on how much Inter value their talented centre-half.

If yesterday’s report is true, Blues manager Thomas Tuchel will have a big say on who the club targets. Skriniar’s experience and quality in a back three is something that matches the preferred system of the Chelsea manager.

Skriniar too expensive for Chelsea

It doesn’t sound like Skriniar will be moving to Stamford Bridge unless their is a compromise from both parties involved.

The Slovakia international has been one of the most consistent Serie A defenders during the last few seasons, so it’s no surprise to hear Chelsea and Spurs are admirers.

He’s got the right kind of profile to improve a Tuchel squad that from the outside looks in desperate need of centre-back recruits.

Sevilla’s Jules Kounde remains the defender with the strongest links of a summer move to West London. In fact, it’s been reported Chelsea are on the verge of completing a £55million transfer.
