Chelsea are now hoping to have Elye Wahi signed by the end of this week after sending a €40m (£35m) bid to Montpellier.

That is according to Foot Mercato and Tutto Mercato Web.

So, what is the latest on Elye Wahi and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, a story from L’Equipe claimed that Chelsea had been working on a deal to sign the France Under-21 international for a while now, and that effort now looks set to pay off.

Tutto Mercato Web believe Chelsea are about to win the race to sign Wahi ahead of AC Milan and Inter Milan, after submitting a £35m bid for the 20-year-old.

Foot Mercato add that talks between Chelsea and Montpellier are progressing very well, and the Blues plan to loan the French prodigy out to Strasbourg once a deal is complete.

Todd Boehly recently completed a 100% takeover of the Ligue 1 side, and also looks set to loan Angelo Gabriel to Patrick Vieira’s Strasbourg after signing the Brazilian talent from Santos.

Who is Chelsea target Elye Wahi?

Given his lack of experience, you may not know much about Wahi.

While it is still early days in his career, the Frenchman looks to have world class potential.

Wahi remarkably scored 19 goals in 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season, showing why Breaking The Lines described him as a lethal striker in their detailed scouting report.

In full, they wrote: “Wahi is a pacey striker who does excel in transitions, but his flexibility and range of finishing make him a lethal threat even for a deep-sitting side.

“The one touch finishing is exquisite, and he could be deadly in another counter-attacking side.”

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea could announce the signing of Wahi this week.
