Report: Chelsea now zeroing in on signing 'mean' tackler, who turned down Anfield move just last year

Chelsea are reportedly set to focus their interest in trying to sign Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.

According to Calcio Mercato, the Blues “intend to get serious” in their attempt to bring the 23-year-old star to Stamford Bridge this summer.

It is understood Thomas Tuchel’s side hope to beat off Premier League rivals Tottenham and Manchester United to the signature of the Serie A centre-back.

In addition, the report states Inter could look to offload Bastoni, but only if their €70million (£60million) valuation is met.

Chelsea interest in Bastoni

It’s previously been reported Chelsea have considered Bastoni as a target this summer, with suggestions he could be included in some kind of deal that would see Blues striker Romelu Lukaku move in the other direction to Inter.

However, this fresh claim is that Chelsea will now be zeroing in on a deal for him.

Calcio Mercato suggest the London club will be ready to enter talks with Italian giants Inter for the talented centre-half.

He was an ever-present in their starting line-up during the most recent season, making 44 appearances across all competitions.

Interestingly, ex-former Inter defender Marco Materazzi previously described Bastoni as a “mean” defender back in 2020.

Turned down Liverpool

It was reported back in 2021 that Bastoni turned down interest from Liverpool about a move to Anfield.

Liverpool’s recruitment in the last few years has been some of the best in the business, so you’re doing something right if you’re in their sights.

Instead, the Italy international has continued learning his craft in his homeland.

Will it be time for someone to tempt him to England this summer, though?
