Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount would prefer to stay in west London despite interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool, according to 90min.

The 24-year-old is in the final 18 months of his contract with the club, and the possibility of a summer exit looks increasingly likely at this point.

A recent report from The Athletic claimed that the ongoing talks over a potential contract extension between Mount and Chelsea are on hold until the summer while the club focus on the rest of the season.

This is while Premier League rivals are keeping an eye on the situation.

Liverpool ready to pounce for Mount

Liverpool, in particular, are ready to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Mount’s future if there are no significant developments until the summer, 90min claims.

The Reds are reportedly set for a midfield overhaul this summer, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita expected to leave the club on free transfers.

Liverpool are said to consider Mount as an ideal signing to rejuvenate their midfield department.

Fortunately for Chelsea, 90min mentions that the England international’s preferred option would be to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

So, why has he not signed a new deal already?

The thing is that Mount, who is currently one of the lowest-earning players at Chelsea, is reportedly looking for a contract that would reflect his status as a regular starter for both club and country.

This suggests Chelsea remain reluctant to offer him such a lucrative deal.

A recent report also claimed that Mount is unsure about where he lies in Graham Potter’s plans at Chelsea, particularly after the arrival of new signings, which is said to be part of the reason why he has not committed to a new contract.
