Chelsea are reportedly interested in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya as a potential transfer target.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the 27-year-old Premier League keeper is now on the Blues radar.

He mentions Everton’s Jordan Pickford as another shot-stopper eyed by Graham Potter’s side, too.

“I think Chelsea have a few other GK names in mind. Not a January priority. They like Pickford and Raya,” Jacobs wrote on Twitter.

Chelsea interested in David Raya

Raya has done great things during 18 months as a Premier League player to enhance his reputation.

The Spain international, who travelled as part of his nation’s squad at the World Cup in Qatar, is the Brentford number one with a lot of quality.

Raya is a brilliant shot-stopper, with his 79 saves this season the most across the top division (Premier League’s website).

Another big part of his game is his passing. In fact, Jurgen Klopp previously called him “incredible” in 2021 for the way he can play out from the back (BBC Sport).

He fits the modern style of what top teams want from a goalkeeper, so it’s no major shock his name has been mentioned as a potential target.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Chelsea’s goalkeeper position in 2023.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is back in-between the sticks for now and has regained some form. He actually has the best save percentage with 83.9 per cent in the Premier League this season. Is he the long-term solution for Graham Potter’s side, though?

Elsewhere, Edouard Mendy is a proven Blues keeper that has gone off the boil in recent months.
