Chelsea are reportedly eyeing Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips as a potential transfer target.
90min claims Chelsea are one of several clubs that have a “close eye” on the 26-year-old. The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United are all potential suitors, too.
The report explains the pressure is on Leeds United to sort out a new deal for their central midfielder before the transfer window opens in the summer.
It is understood the Yorkshire club are yet to open further discussions with their player since failed talks took place last year. He’s still under contract at Elland Road until 2024, though.
Phillips is a talisman for Premier League outfit Leeds, who are really missing him while he sits out with a hamstring problem.
The England international’s become a household name after his performances in his 19 Three Lions caps, so it’s no surprise to hear some of the biggest clubs are circling for him.
Intriguing Chelsea target
Obviously, Phillips is a top player that’s got the ability to make a step up from Leeds.
However, dropping him into Thomas Tuchel’s side would be a colossal ask.
Phillips previously called Chelsea’s midfield superstar N’Golo Kante “unbelievable”, and perhaps he could get the chance to play alongside him.
The Leeds ace is a deep-lying midfield playmaker that’s most similar in style to Blues star Jorginho.
A Phillips-Kante partnership is one that would cover a ridiculous amount of ground every game with their energy, but it would be a big jump in class.
A big question should be asked on whether Thomas Tuchel thinks he’s good enough.
In addition, it’ll be interesting to see if Leeds can manage to convince their academy graduate to stay.
