Report: Chelsea think 23-year-old is just too expensive to sign, but Arsenal might do it anyway

Reports suggest that Chelsea have decided against the signing of Joao Felix on loan in January.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues have deemed the fee Atletico Madrid have requested for a loan signing to be far too expensive to be worth bringing in.

Reports since the World Cup have claimed that the 23-year-old is hoping for a move away from the La Liga side.

He has been with the Spaniards since his big-money transfer from Benfica, however it is believed by many that he has not yet lived up to the hype of what was expected of his career.

He attempted to begin to rectify this with the World Cup, as he established a starting role in the Portugal side.

With the likes of Chelsea target Rafael Leao on the bench, Felix certainly impressed before his country were dumped out of the tournament.

Chelsea don’t want Felix

They fell to Hakim Ziyech’s Morocco, with the match being the national team manager’s final in charge.

Despite the underwhelming team performance, reports still strongly linked the forward with a move to the Premier League, and in particular Chelsea.

However, the Daily Mail have now claimed that the Blues have ruled themselves out of a deal.

The report goes on to say that Arsenal are still intrigued by the prospect of a deal, despite the extortionate fee required to secure his services.

The Gunners will almost certainly need to strengthen in the absence of former Blues target Gabriel Jesus, who is injured for a number of months.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in an extremely favourable position to win the Premier League this season, however it will surely be a case of how much investment they want to make in an attempt to hold off a title fight from Manchester City.
