Journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport that Chelsea have wanted to sign Joao Felix since when Roman Abramovich was in charge of the club.
The Blues are currently reportedly interested in a deal to sign the Portugal star, who is wanting a move away from Atletico Madrid.
It could be claimed that Felix’s extremely promising career has stagnated during his time in La Liga so far.

However, he has taken the World Cup as a platform to show that he is still the fantastic footballer he was promising to become during his time at Benfica.
It has been claimed that some of his performances have alerted a number of sides to a potential deal, with the price tag required being in the region of £100m.
Phillips has said however that the Blues’ interest in a deal is not new, with him being a target since before Todd Boehly even took over.
Chelsea have wanted Felix for years
He said: “From my sources, I was always told that he was a target under the previous ownership.
“The new ownership has continued scouting Felix, but that’s as far as it is at the moment.”
The Blues are currently linked to the signing of a number of top-quality attackers for both January and beyond.

Latest reports have claimed that the Blues have already confirmed a deal to sign Christopher Nkunku at the end of the season.
There has also been speculation that the Blues are hopeful of signing youngster Youssoufa Moukoko from Borussia Dortmund.
However, this deal is also reportedly much more likely to be completed in the summer next year, with his contract set to expire then.
Despite an impressive tournament in Qatar, there may be fears that his inconsistencies at club levels in recent years hold him back from being able to perform to the levels that price tag require.
