Real Madrid have reportedly agreed to sign Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni, despite Chelsea being linked with him this summer.

According to The Athletic, Madrid have reached a “verbal agreement” with Monaco for the 22-year-old.

It is explained that the overall deal could be worth in excess of €100 million (£85million).

The report adds that the final paperwork is now being completed for the France international before he officially makes a switch to the Bernabeu.

It was reported earlier this month that Chelsea have actually agreed personal terms with Tchouameni about a summer transfer, but it looks like the Blues will miss out to the reigning Champions League winners.

Real Madrid agreed to sign Tchouameni

It sounds like Madrid are on the verge of getting their man. The Spanish side have already snapped up Antonio Rudiger this summer, too.

Tchouameni, described as “extraordinary” by Paul Pogba last year, looks set for the next big step in his career.

The highly rated defensive midfielder will now be trying to break into a world class Madrid. He’ll effectively be going from a big fish in a small pond to a small fish in a big pond.

Madrid’s midfield trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro has basically picked itself for well over five years. However, they’re adding fresh blood with the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, along with target Tchoumeni.

For Chelsea, it’ll be interesting to see how they shape up in the centre of the park next year. They’ve got the likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic as their senior midfielders, with the likes of Conor Gallagher returning from loan spells.
