Chelsea reportedly want to give their player Reece James a new improved deal once the new ownership takes charge at Stamford Bridge.

According to 90min, the Blues want to give the 22-year-old a fresh “bumper” contract.

The report explains that it’s a top priority for the London club to get James signed to a new deal after the takeover is completed.

In addition, Chelsea are “unconcerned” by transfer rumours linking James to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

It’s been reported that Madrid have actually made contact about the England international, with a view to signing him in 2023.

Yes please Chelsea!

James, described as “special” by Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz, is someone fully deserving of a fresh contract.

His current deal with the club doesn’t expire until 2025, but he should be recognised as one the highest earners at the Bridge.

According to Spotrac, he’s one of the team’s lowest earners at £58,000-a-week.

The big dip in Chelsea’s season has come during the games James has missed down to injuries and illnesses, which highlights just how important he is.

A fresh contract would be a sign that he’s one of the players manager Thomas Tuchel wants to build around.

If a new club captain is needed, James should be one of the first candidates that springs to mind.

It would be a great place for the next owners to start, too.
