Report: Chelsea unwilling to spend £10m on ‘world class talent’ despite Potter wanting a player in his position

Chelsea are reportedly hesitant to match Atletico Madrid’s asking price for Joao Felix.

According to the Evening Standard, the Stamford Bridge chain of command haven’t responded enthusiastically to the £10m loan fee proposed by Atletico for their forward.

The Spanish side clearly have ambitions of sending Felix away this month until at least the end of the season.

His relationship with Diego Simeone has certainly caused a stir between the two camps, one that the club want to resolve this month.

Atletico have already apparently offered the Portugal international to several Premier League teams, including Chelsea.

However, the Blues, along with Arsenal and Manchester United, are said to be rather put off by the figure being thrown in their direction.

This is despite the Evening Standard’s claim that Todd Boehly is open to signing another attacker in January, due to the season-ending injury suffered by Armando Broja.

Should Chelsea consider Joao Felix?

Boehly has already secured the services of David Datro Fofana, who watched his new colleague’s live damply draw with Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Christopher Nkunku will also be heading to Cobham, but not until the end of the campaign.

With Fofana still extremely raw and relatively inexperienced, and Nkunku not available for a while, Chelsea could do with another solution.

Whilst Felix might not be the answer to Graham Potter’s problems, he has a proven goalscoring record in La Liga and at international level.

He netted his fourth goal in three league matches in Atletico’s first game back after the World Cup.
