Report: Chelsea want to sign 27-year-old midfielder who nearly joined Manchester United this summer
Reports have claimed that Chelsea are keen on signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
According to CalcioMercato, the Blues are looking to bring in the 27-year-old on a cheap deal for reinforcements in the middle of the park.
The Blues are facing a potential midfield exodus at Stamford Bridge this summer.
There have currently been no breakthroughs in attempts to secure N’golo Kante and Jorginho to new deals.
The pair’s contracts both expire in the summer, with them both being crucial members of the midfield over the last few seasons.
A new four-month injury for the Frenchman certainly won’t be helping his cause as he looks to commit his long-term future to the club.
Chelsea want Rabiot
This could see them need to push for reinforcements soon. They have already been linked in the last couple of days with a sensational and optimistic move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
Now, CalcioMercato have reported that they may turn to the Juventus man Rabiot in order to plug the gap that could be about to form.
Manchester United were keen on signing the France international this summer, as they pushed hard to find a midfielder after their long efforts to sign Frenkie de Jong ended in embarrassment.
The potential move brought a lot of backlash from supporters, who believed the move was not a move in the right direction for the club.
They ended up signing Casemiro, who inflicted heartache on the Blues at the weekend with his late equaliser in the meeting between the two sides.
Ultimately, it feels like there are a lot stronger options the Blues can pursue in the next two transfer windows.
With the premium options of Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham likely to be available in the summer, it would be far more beneficial for the club’s future if they went for either Englishman.
