Chelsea are reportedly expected to make an imminent bid for Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims the Blues will soon make an offer worth around €70million (£60million) for the Juventus defender.

It is understood the Italian champions are willing to accept a sum below De Ligt’s €120million (103million) release clause.

However, Chelsea’s offer will fall well below that mark and would need significant bonuses to boost its valuation.

De Ligt, who would reportedly like the chance to work under Blues manager Thomas Tuchel, is clearly someone Chelsea are trying to bring to Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old’s a commanding centre-back with great strength and leadership, plus he fits the modern mould of being comfortable in possession.

Chelsea bid for Matthijs de Ligt

Tuchel’s side appear to be accelerating their move for the Juventus centre-half.

Described as someone with “incredible potential” by ex-Juventus man Andrea Barzagli in 2021, De Ligt is a very exciting target for Chelsea.

It’s easy to overlook the fact he’s aged just 22 due to the fact he’s racked up a lot of experience with Juventus and Ajax in his career already.

For Chelsea, they desperately need some recruitments at the back to help improve an area of the squad that looks a little light going into pre-season.

Thiago Silva, 37, is the current Blues centre-back you know will be important next season. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have both left over the summer, though.
