N’Golo Kante is now ready to sign a new contract at Chelsea.

According to The Sun, Kante is poised to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge by extending his current deal.

It is understood that the 31-year-old Blues star is primed to agree a fresh two-year contract with the option of a third year.

The report adds that there won’t be any ‘pay-as-you-play’ clauses.

Kante’s current deal, which is due to expire this summer, is currently worth £290,000-a-week. There is no indication on how large the new package will be, though.

Kante has achieved so much in his Chelsea career since joining in 2016, so nobody could begrudge him if he called time on his Stamford Bridge spell this summer.

However, it sounds like Blues fans will get to watch their all-action midfielder for a while longer still.

Aged 31, Kante should be in his prime years, with plenty still left in the tank. However, it is very noticeable that injuries have become part of his game in recent years.

Described as “fantastic” by Potter, Kante looks like being part of the plans moving forward.

He’s not played since August due to injury, but he may be back in the matchday squad for today’s Premier League fixture at home to Everton.

Let’s hope he can justify the club’s faith in him by providing a big final third of the season.
