Chelsea are set to face another hurdle in their apparent pursuit of Anthony Gordon.
According to the Telegraph, the 21-year-old is on the verge of signing a new long-term contract with Everton.
Frank Lampard is clearly eager to tie down those players who ensured the club’s Premier League survival last season, as he edges closer to another relegation fight.
Gordon was superb towards the latter stages of the previous campaign, scoring a crucial goal against Manchester United that lifted the Toffees out of the drop zone.

His performances earned him the attention of several top-flight sides, including Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel was reportedly pushing for the young Englishman’s signature in the summer.
Although the former Blues boss failed to grab the Goodison Park prodigy, the interest from his chain of command did not seemingly disappear.

However, Todd Boehly and his crew might have to retract their interest for now as Gordon looks set to renew his allegiance to Everton.
Signing a swanky deal might be the incentive the attacker needs to improve his form, which has dipped in the past few months.

He has, however, got one major merit to his name that will certainly want to keep Chelsea in the loop over any future developments.
Ahead of the World Cup, Gordon was recorded as the fastest player in the Premier League, beating the likes of Erling Haaland, Darwin Nunez and Gabriel Martinelli.
It’s just a shame that Lampard was quick to wrap up the forward, otherwise Graham Potter might have a pace merchant on his hands.
