Kyle Macaulay has reportedly played an important role in driving Chelsea’s interest in signing Molde youngster David Datro Fofana.

Macaulay, 36, moved to Stamford Bridge a few months ago to take up a recruitment position with the Blues.

The Scottish scout has worked alongside Graham Potter at both Brighton and Swansea City in the past, so it’s no real surprise he followed him again back in September.

According to 90min, Macaulay has been “key” in Chelsea stepping up interest in Fofana as they push to sign him.

The report says he previously identified the 19-year-old Molde striker when he was working at Brighton earlier this year, but he’s now told Chelsea to get him.

Potter’s current side are named as frontrunners to sign the teenage centre-forward now ahead of Brighton, Brentford and Leicester City, though.

David Datro Fofana interest

Fabrizio Romano broke the news yesterday that Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Molde youngster Fofana.

It now turns out the new backroom staff are driving this potential transfer.

Fofana, who was a relative unknown before this week’s transfer speculation, is now being tipped with a move to the Premier League.

The forward has 24 goals in 65 first-team appearances for Norwegian club Molde. He’s represented the Ivory Coast at senior level in two games, too.

Will this deal be a sign of more things to come?

Brighton have pulled off some exquisite pieces of transfer business in recent years to sign relative unknowns and make them elite Premier League performers.

Chelsea will now hope they’ve cut out the middle man and that Macaulay can help get to these hidden gems first.
