Report: Newcastle now trying to sign ‘fantastic’ player Graham Potter wants at Chelsea in January

Reports have claimed that Newcastle are keen to rival Chelsea for the signing of Brighton’s Leandro Trossard in January.

According to the Northern Echo, the winger is one of the hand-picked options Eddie Howe wants to bring in to strengthen his side after this winter’s World Cup.

The English manager will know that his side does not need a great deal of addition during this season to compete at an extremely high level.

They currently sit in the top four after a third of the season has been completed. They have only lost one game all season, with that coming in the last seconds against Liverpool.

This means they sit above a Chelsea side who have struggled to impress consistently this season, under either Thomas Tuchel or Graham Potter.

This carried on in the last set of fixtures. The Blues fell to a damning 4-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton.

Newcastle want Trossard

One of the players who performed brilliantly in that game was Trossard. The Belgian opened the scoring with a fine goal.

His performance saw him draw praise after the game from his current manager, Roberto de Zerbi, who described his performance as ‘fantastic’.

Reports have claimed that the Blues are interested in a deal for the Seagulls man, with that interest lead by their manager, Potter.

However, the Northern Echo have claimed that they are going to face completion from Newcastle for the deal.

The report goes on to say that the Belgian is valued at around £30m.

The Blues should be confident in their manager’s opinion on the player, with him working with him for a number of years on the South Coast.

In fact, Potter can be credited with taking Trossard’s game to the next level. He deployed him in a number of different roles in order to keep opponents guessing, with him using him in a wing-back role on multiple occasions.
