Reports have claimed that Newcastle United are not looking to sign Chelsea’s Jorginho in January.

According to The Telegraph, Eddie Howe’s side have decided the Italy international is not mobile enough to feature in their midfield.

Jorginho is currently on a contract at Stamford Bridge which would see his time at the club end at the conclusion of this campaign.

Alongside N’golo Kante, there are currently no indications that either of the pair will extend their stay in West London.

Despite a number of successful years together, Chelsea fans are currently preparing for a future without the £50m signing in their ranks. This is in spite of him being handed the captain’s armband for the game against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

Jorginho too slow for Newcastle

Reports had claimed that high-flying Newcastle are interested in accelerating the 31-year-old’s departure from Stamford Bridge by completing the signing of him next month.

However, the Telegraph have claimed his mobility and high wage demands have left him an unachievable option.

The Magpies currently sit comfortably above the Blues in third in the Premier League, as the possibility of European football returning to St. James’ park becomes even larger.

If the Blues are to lose the likes of Jorginho and Kante, they will need to sign equally good replacements to ensure they don’t fall behind in the pecking order.

Reports have claimed that they are very keen on the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, with it likely to be a club-record fee to complete the deal.

Recent claims have suggested that they are even interested in the transfer as soon as next month, in order to jump the queue ahead of fellow elite European sides.
