Real Madrid are among the Spanish clubs that are hijacking the Chelsea interest in Manchester City star Raheem Sterling.

According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid are ramping up their bid to try sign Sterling.

It is understood Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are stepping up their interest in the 27-year-old attacker, too.

The report mentions Chelsea as possible suitors for the England international this summer, but it’s the overseas clubs that are looking to make their early moves.

Chelsea interest in Sterling

Latest reports seem to suggest Chelsea are taking a backfoot in the Sterling transfer pursuit.

It’s been reported this month the Blues could attempt to bring the Man City winger to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. However, London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are also possible destinations.

He’s recently become a Premier League champion for the fourth time, after another eye-catching campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

The quick attacker ended the season with 17 goals and nine assists across all competitions.

Incidentally, he outscored every single player in the Chelsea squad.

JT praise

Chelsea fans may enjoy hearing what club legend John Terry previously said about Sterling.

He described him as “unbelievable” on an Instagram post last year.

Sterling’s an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s England side that have crept closer towards silverware in recent years. He’ll hope the Three Lions can get over the line at the World Cup at the end of the calendar year.

It doesn’t feel like Sterling’s role in the England line-up is under threat, but it must be frustrating for him when he’s sometimes in and out of the Man City XI. The imminent arrival of striker Erling Haaland at the Etihad should make competition even tougher next season, too.
