Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk may reportedly want to join Chelsea this month.

Mudryk, who turned 22 a couple of days ago, is at the centre of strong transfer speculation during the January window.

London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal are the two frontrunners in the transfer rumour mill, with the duo trying to bring the 22-year-old to the Premier League.

The Telegraph recently claimed that Blues co-owner Todd Boehly is prepared to make a bid for the Shakhtar winger if he knows the player would like a move to Stamford Bridge. They do add Arsenal are still pushing hard for his signature, though.

Mudryk may want to join Chelsea

The Sun now claims that Mudryk could now want to join Chelsea because he’s torn over his future.

It is explained that the Ukraine international is split over joining Graham Potter’s side or Premier League leaders Arsenal.

The report says the two clubs are fighting to sign the £88million-rated speedster in January, with members of the Shakhtar hierarchy now in London to hold ongoing discussions about the player’s future.

Apparently, the initial understanding is that the left-winger would pick Arsenal as his preferred destination. There’s now temptation to the Chelsea project, though.

Described as “really dangerous on the counter” by Danny Murphy on talkSPORT (12pm, 4 January), Mudryk would inject some extra life into Chelsea’s forward line.

The Blues simply aren’t scoring enough goals or creating enough clear chances in the final third right now.

The fact Chelsea entering talks with Shakhtar suggests they’re firmly in the race, especially now the player appears to be having second thoughts.

Is this all a smokescreen to hurry up a move to the Emirates Stadium, though?
