Mateo Kovacic could leave Chelsea this summer and join Premier League rivals Manchester City, according to reports.

Mateo Kovacic, 28, is one of the senior players in the current Chelsea dressing room. In fact, the Croatia international has even worn the captain’s armband at times this season.

However, the central midfielder’s current deal at Stamford Bridge is due to expire in the summer of 2024.

Now, there’s fresh claims that he could be on the move at the end of this campaign.

According to overseas news outlet N1, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is interested in signing Kovacic from Chelsea.

It is understood that the 28-year-old’s agents recently travelled to England to hold opening conversations with Man City.

The report explains that Chelsea could expect to sell him for around £30million if he moves this summer, with Man City eyeing him to replace Kalvin Phillips at the Etihad Stadium.

The Telegraph claimed back in February that Man City had turned their attention towards Kovacic.

It seems like interest is ramping up following talks, though.

We are huge admirers of Kovacic, who can be one of the most eye-catching players to watch at Chelsea when he’s dribbling with the ball.

However, like so much of this Chelsea squad, one criticism of him is his final ball.

You’re clearly quite a talented player if you’ve got Guardiola and Man City chasing your signature, but is time for Kovacic to start a new chapter in his career?

We would like to think the club’s next permanent manager will get a big say.

Previous boss Graham Potter described Kovacic as “really important” at Chelsea. Will his successor feel the same?
