Romelu Lukaku is set to become the highest-paid player at Chelsea as the London side reached an agreement with Inter Milan over the transfer fee, according to The Athletic.
As various outlets have also reported, today Chelsea and Inter have finally agreed a deal worth €115million (£97.5m) for the 28-year-old.
Lukaku is now close to breaking Chelsea’s transfer record, beating Kai Havertz’s £71m deal last summer (BBC).
Interestingly, The Athletic claims also claims that Lukaku is expected to sign a five-year contract worth around €12-13m-a-year net (about £195,000-a-week after tax).
This will make him the highest-paid player at the club, the report added.

Lukaku reportedly helped accelerate the deal
A few days ago, the Belgium international reportedly expressed his desire to join Chelsea to Inter.
And today, Lukaku asked to be exempted from Saturday’s training, as well as their planned pre-season friendly against Parma on Sunday, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Chelsea and Inter are reportedly still working on the final details of the deal. But if it goes well, Lukaku might be able to make his Chelsea debut in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup vs Villarreal.
