Report: Todd Boehly switches attention back to 23-year-old defender as Ake deal falls through
Reports suggest Chelsea have switched their attention back to a deal for Jules Kounde this summer.
According to Di Marzio, Todd Boehly is beginning to lead the charge to sign the Frenchman, who has been a target of the club for over a year now.
With a whole host of defensive targets at the Blues’ disposal, it appeared that a push for Kounde had gone quiet, with Barcelona also seemingly showing an interest in completing a deal.
Instead, Thomas Tuchel’s side switched their focus to Kalidou Koulibaly, with them expected to announce the signing of the Senegal international imminently.
It was believed they held interest in securing a deal for Manchester City’s Nathan Ake, relying on his versatility to hopefully replace Antonio Rudiger.
However, the Blues have deemed the demands from the Premier League champions too high for the Dutchman, and have reportedly walked away from a move.
Boehly turns attention to Kounde
Di Marzio claim the Blues are now set to turn their focus back to Kounde, with Boehly ready to take over on a deal originally led by Marina Granovskaia.
Granovskaia left her role on the Chelsea board earlier this summer, with Boehly temporarily taking charge of transfers for this summer.
While things may have not got off to a great start for the American following the Raphinha saga, fans will have been assured by his ability to do business after securing the services of Raheem Sterling.
If he adds to the England international with Koulibaly and Kounde, Blues fans will be excited about the future, even if no further signings are made.
While rumours of another centre-back fail to go away, the club also have youngster Levi Colwill to look to for rotation options, with supports hoping the club don’t fall into the trap of cashing in for him.
