Reports suggest Thomas Tuchel would rather look closer to home than go all out for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski this summer.

According to Goal, the German is more keen on signing either Gabriel Jesus in this transfer window, with it believed he would suit Chelsea’s system better.

The Blues will be cautious when attempting to sign big name strikers, after the underwhelming impact of Romelu Lukaku last season.

The Belgian managed just eight league goals in his return to Stamford Bridge, with the required shift in style seemingly having a negative effect on the whole team as well.

This could result in the Blues looking to options that suit the system Tuchel looked to implement in the second half of the season, where Kai Havertz occupied a central role in the front three.

With rumours of interest in Jesus and fellow City man Raheem Sterling, Chelsea would be getting a player who on paper fits alongside the likes of Havertz and Mason Mount a lot better than a pure goalscorer.

This has lead to GOAL suggesting Tuchel would be more interested in those moves than Lewandowski’s despite the Polish international’s desire to leave.

Jesus definitely has more energy than Lewandowski, and although the latter may be a better finisher, the Brazilian’s ability to press from the front is something which Chelsea apparently value highly.

Lewandowksi is now reaching an age where he doesn’t have the same energy as he did in his younger years, and that lack of off the ball movement is seemingly counting against him with Chelsea’s recruitment staff.

With Liverpool and Manchester City strengthening in a big way up top, it’s imperative the Blues make a statement with an attacking signing.

While Lewandowski would no doubt fill this quota, the hesitance to go all out on a goalscoring number nine is understandable, based on the failure of the Lukaku experiment so far.

Sterling has the potential to provide individual brilliance the club have been missing since Eden Hazard’s departure in 2019, while Jesus’ versatility to play both in the middle or out wide making him a viable asset.
