Report: 'Unbelievable' player could be sold in 'next few hours', Chelsea have submitted their bid to sign him
It is being reported that Raphinha’s next club will be decided in the next few hours, amid interest from both Chelsea and Barcelona.
According to Sport, the Blues have currently offered a far better deal to Leeds United for the player, however the Catalan side are hoping the player’s personal desire to play at the Nou Camp will be enough to get the deal done quickly.
Todd Boehly had effectively agreed a fee with Leeds for the Brazilian last week, with him being set to become the club’s first marquee signing under the American.
However, it became clear that the 25-year-old’s preference lied with a move to Spain, as he and his agent, Deco, held out for interest from Xavi’s side.
While Barcelona announced a significant financial lever last week, they are yet to agree a deal for Raphinha, or any of their targets who were not available on a free transfer.
Raphina decision in next few hours
Now though, sport reports that they have showed their hand, with a decision expected from the Premier League survivors in the “next few hours”.
This is because Leeds are hoping for the deal to be complete before they begin their pre-season tour of Australia this weekend.
The Brazilian enjoyed another stellar season last year, gaining plaudits from teammates in particular, with Kalvin Phillips describing him as ‘unbelievable’ before completing his own transfer to Manchester City.
Despite the player obviously favouring a move to the Nou Camp, the Blues should not rule out his impact as a potential signing, especially complementing the imminent deal for Raheem Sterling.
The pair have the potential to redefine Chelsea’s attack, with their 1v1 dribbling a particular strength noticeably missing from Thomas Tuchel’s current set of options.
If it is not to be however, the club should do more to offer Ousmane Dembele an irresistible deal, with the Frenchman currently out of contract but negotiating with the Catalan club again.
