Report: What Atletico Madrid are asking Joao Felix to do before he signs for Chelsea

Atletico Madrid are reportedly eager to extend Joao Felix’s contract by another 12-months ahead of his proposed move to Chelsea.

According to Marca, the Spanish side want to lengthen their departing player’s deal from 2026 to 2027.

This is to spread the payments of the Portugal international’s wages over a longer period of time, and therefore help ‘balance their accounts’.

Felix is one of Atletico’s most lucrative earners, a burden that will apparently soon be placed upon Chelsea’s shoulders for the rest of the season.

It came to light yesterday that the Stamford Bridge chain of command had struck a deal to sign the 23-year-old on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Todd Boehly and his team are set to pay the La Liga outfit around £9.7m for Felix’s services, a fee that will hopefully be justified in goals.

Graham Potter’s squad are in desperate need of additional firepower, having failed to even graze the surface of Manchester City’s defence in the past two matches.

Chelsea are the lowest scorers in the top half of the Premier League table, converting only five more times than bottom club Southampton.

This trait needs to change immediately if the Blues have any ambitions of clambering back up the league and into the European spots.

Whilst Felix is not prolific in the final third, he certainly has the capability to trouble opponents with speed and skill.
