Reports have claimed that Diego Simeone believed Joao Felix was overrated at Atletico Madrid.

According to BBC Sport, the La Liga manager believes the only star in his squad was former World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.

The 23-year-old completed his move to Chelsea yesterday, and will be hoping his off-field registration and work permit are sorted in time for him to feature in tonight’s London derby against Fulham.

The Blues are pretty desperate to bring in some quality in the attacking areas, after what has been a dismal few months in front of goal.

Their issues have been added to by injuries to the likes of Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic in recent weeks, which seemingly accelerated their desire to bring in Felix.

Simeone thought Felix was overrated

His quality has never been doubted. Glimpses of just how good the Portugal international is were on display during the World Cup.

However, it is pretty well-believed across the game that his career has not hit the heights that were expected during his time at Atletico.

It has now been claimed in Guillem Balague’s BBC Sport column that Simeone was never a massive fan of the player, with him not a massive fan of his attitude in the side’s classic well-drilled style.

There is currently no obligation or option in Chelsea’s loan for Felix to extend his stay beyond the rest of this season. The 23-year-old has even signed a new contract that has added another year to his deal with Atletico.

Despite Felix’s talent, he will surely not be able to solve all of Graham Potter’s problems in front of goal.

Reports have claimed that the Blues are still interested in strengthening with an outright striker, with them interested in a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram.
