Journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed on Twitter that striker Marcus Thuram wants to stay at Borussia Monchengladbach for the rest of the season.

Chelsea have been reportedly firmly interested in bringing the Frenchman in, with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.

The Blues have already been extremely busy in the January transfer window as they look to recover what has been a dismal season so far.

The highlight acquisition so far has been Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, although he is only at the club for the remainder of the season.

While his quality is undoubted, it is likely the 23-year-old will not be able solve Chelsea’s attacking woes on his own.

Thuram wants to stay

Plettenberg has claimed that the Blues are still in the market for a striker since the signing of Felix, although they may struggle in their attempts to secure Thuram.

He said: “News on Thuram: The loan of Joao Felix was not the end. Chelsea still searching a finisher. And Thuram is a serious option & discussed at #CFC! He’s interesting because of his profile.

“Club considering an official offer. We‘ve been told: He wants to stay in winter!”

Thuram was recently seen on the biggest stage in football, when he was substituted on in the first half of the World Cup final against Argentina. He was required after the woeful performance of former Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele.

The 25-year-old is the second top scorer in the Bundesliga so far this season, sitting only behind potential future teammate Christopher Nkunku.

With the current crop of strikers hardly firing, the addition of a recognised finisher should be seen as a priority this month. This is despite the addition already of David Datro Fofana, who seems more of a signing with an eye towards the future.
