Reports have claimed that Graham Potter warned Chelsea owner Todd Boehly about signing Enzo Fernandez back in January.

According to The Guardian, the former manager made it clear that he thought the signing would be too expensive, as he warned against bringing in too many players in the middle of the season.

The club smashed their transfer record to bring in Fernandez back in January, after a month of fierce negotiations with his former club, Benfica.

They looked at one stage to have missed out on the deal, with them being priced out of a deal for the midfielder who had just enjoyed glory at the World Cup.

Reports stated that they had turned their attention to other options, with it being claimed they had seen a bid rejected for Brighton star Moises Caicedo.

However, they moved back in for the 22-year-old as the window came to an end, with it now being claimed that this was as a result of the desire of the board to bring him in.

It seems this went against the manager at the time’s request, who to be fair had an influx of additions to deal with in the middle of the season.

Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke were all brought in to try and address the issues up top, essentially giving Potter a completely new attack to try and make work.

The former Brighton man’s time at Stamford Bridge came to an end late in the season when the Blues were defeated at home by Aston Villa, seeing them drop into the bottom half of the table.

He has this week finally been replaced permanently, with former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino being handed the keys to next season.
