The latest transfer rumour suggests that another Chelsea player could end up leaving to play in Saudi Arabia.

In recent years, the Saudi Pro League has only grown in stature, spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo as the poster boy at Al-Nassr.

Former Chelsea stars N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy all moved to sides in Saudi Arabia in 2023 after spells at Stamford Bridge. The Blues then sold Angelo Gabriel to a Saudi Pro League club a year later, too.

Chelsea fans have compared Moises Caicedo to Kante, which in itself is praise of the highest order.

Alfie Gilchrist approached by clubs in Saudi Arabia

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed via X that Chelsea youngster Alfie Gilchrist, 21, is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Apparently, the Blues defender has interest from multiple teams in England’s second tier. In addition, Saudi Arabian clubs have made approaches about signing the English talent, who’s viewed as a “strong profile fit” by Saudi Pro League officials.

Gilchrist, who’s a product of the Chelsea academy, has played 17 first-team matches for the Blues.

After a season-long loan spell at Sheffield United last term in the Championship, it looks like there’s no room for him to break into Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Middlesbrough have enquired about signing Gilchrist and sealing a return to England’s second tier. However, let’s wait and see what comes from the new interest overseas from the cash-rich Saudi Arabian clubs.

Alfie Gilchrist impressed Cole Palmer in training

GIlchrist definitely impressed Chelsea fans when he got the chance in the first team under Mauricio Pochettino during the 2023/24 campaign.

The versatile defender, who can play right-back or centre-half, also caught the eye of Cole Palmer, too.

Back in April 2024, Palmer praised Chelsea teammate Gilchrist. He said: “Obviously, he has been at Chelsea for his whole life. He has trained with us and put 100 per cent in every day.”

Even though Gilchrist is tipped to be on his way out, we will be keeping an eye on him to see his career path because he’s definitely got a lot of potential.
