There are people inside Chelsea that want the club to try and sign Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez this summer.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Phillips has claimed on his Substack that he’s heard this week that a handful of people inside Chelsea want them to target Emiliano Martinez.

He adds that some Blues staff recommended the 30-year-old goalkeeper before the end of the season.

TalkSPORT reported earlier this week that Martinez is a potential transfer target for Chelsea, who are open to offers for their current goalkeepers Kepa Arrizabalaga & Edouard Mendy.

There’s now more fuel to the fire regarding interest in the Villa gloveman.

Martinez spent such a long time of his career warming the bench at Arsenal, but it’s really ignited during three seasons at Villa Park.

The £17million keeper is now regarded as one of the Premier League’s best in his position.

He’s now written his name into history for his role in Argentina winning the World Cup last winter, too.

Martinez has all the personality and quality of a top-class goalkeeper, which is why we’d love someone with his presence in-between the sticks.

However, he’s not in the elite category when it comes to ball-playing levels.

We’re yet to hear news that Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign his fellow countryman for Chelsea, which should be a key factor in any deal we make this summer.

In fact, Sky Sports have said that Pochettino is happy starting next season with Kepa still in his position as the Blues first-choice goalkeeper.
