Chelsea face a difficult task trying to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in January.

That is according to Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella, who has been speaking on the London Is Blue podcast.

Victor Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, but Kinsella says signing him in the winter transfer window will be tricky.

ESPN FC pundit and former USA international Janusz Michallik, however, is confident that the Blues will eventually land the Nigerian.

Chelsea signing Victor Osimhen in January a tricky task

Despite all of the talk surrounding Osimhen and Chelsea, Kinsella thinks a January deal will be too difficult to pull off.

Discussing the 24-year-old on the London Is Blue podcast, he said: “I think that Osimhen is trying to force his way out of Napoli in the long run, but Napoli are very good at holding firm and don’t really get bullied by their players. So I think that’ll be tricky to get Osimhen over the line in January.”

Chelsea may have to wait until next summer to sign Victor Osimhen

Most connected with Chelsea would probably welcome Osimhen, including Didier Drogba, who once described the Nigeria international as the “complete striker” on social media platform X.

Last season, he scored 26 goals in 32 league appearances to help Napoli win the Serie A title. Osimhen is the kind of forward most managers would want in their squad.

However, if Mauricio Pochettino is one of those managers, then it seems like he may have to wait until the summer transfer window to get his hands on the former Lille man.

Looking at the above, Napoli being reluctant to sell Osimhen in the middle of the season would be more than understandable. It is the kind of sale that could destroy their campaign given what he brings to the team.

It could be bad news for Chelsea, who are not exactly blessed with too much firepower right now. Not addressing that issue now could really impact their chances of qualifying for the Champions League, which already looks slim after their slow start to the season.
