Chelsea are entering deadline day of the summer transfer window with many supporters feeling their business cannot be done yet.
Highlight signings such as Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Alejandro Garnacho have significantly strengthened their attacking lineup, and a combination of them linked up for five goals against West Ham without Cole Palmer.
Injuries are already impacting the Blues heavily in the early stages of the 2025/26 campaign. Palmer, Delap and Levi Colwill have already found themselves on the sidelines after just three games.
This has led many to believe that Enzo Maresca needs another signing before the window slams shut at 7pm in England.

The one signing Chelsea must make on deadline day
Despite the problem for Colwill, Chelsea are yet to address the centre-back position. Jorrel Hato has been brought in primarily as cover for Marc Cucurella.
Earlier this summer, the Blues were linked with the addition of Jan Paul van Hecke, currently a regular starter at Brighton.
Chelsea have not been afraid to deal with the Seagulls in recent transfer windows, and that has continued this summer with Pedro, as well as the expected addition of Facuno Buonanotte on loan.
The Dutchman fits Maresca’s playstyle which involves plenty of possession at the back, as well as being able to break the lines with passing forwards.
| Levi Colwill vs Jan Paul Van Hecke | Levi Colwill | Jan Paul van Hecke |
| Passing Accuracy (%) | 89.7 | 88.5 |
| Accurate Long Balls | 87 | 137 |
| Successful Passes | 2328 | 2004 |
A deal for Van Hecke is going to come out of thin air as far as Chelsea are concerned, but could be important when it comes to keeping a very successful manager happy.

Maresca not happy at Chelsea
Despite being backed heavily financially this summer, the Italian is not best pleased with the entire transfer window that has taken place at Stamford Bridge.
Maresca is unhappy he hasn’t been given a new defender, as well as a new goalkeeper, after attempts for Mike Maignan were pushed back earlier this summer.
After two trophies and a return to the Champions League, the Blues should be doing anything in their power to keep the manager onside.
This would be helped greatly by listening to his very public wishes and signing a new centre-back, and Van Hecke represents the perfect option.
