Arsenal could be about to beat Chelsea at their own game in the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer.

Arsenal are interested in signing Gyokeres when the transfer window opens but so are their London rivals.

Last month, it was claimed that Chelsea were hoping to beat Arsenal to Gyokeres’ signature, but it looks like the Gunners are the ones who are at the front of the queue.

The striker having suitors comes as no surprise after the season that he has had. In 51 appearances for Sporting Lisbon, Gyokeres has scored an incredible 53 goals.

Arsenal offer Viktor Gyokeres long-term contract

Since being taken over by Todd Boehly, Chelsea have become renowned for offering really long deals to their players.

And it appears that Arsenal are now willing to do the same with Gyokeres in their bid to land the 26-year-old.

According to CaughtOffside, the Gunners have already offered Gyokeres a long-term contract as they look to see off competition from Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Arsenal need more firepower to close the gap with Liverpool and win the Premier League title next season.

Chelsea will also have aspirations to start challenging for the title again so cannot say no to signing a new striker either.

As well as Gyokeres, Chelsea have also been linked with Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig.

The length of Chelsea players’ contracts

Chelsea’s contract policy has been criticised, yet the club’s desire to hand out such long deals means they will not lose any of their key players any time soon.

The likes of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson, for example, are not out of contract until 2033.

Things are much different now compared to when Boehly and Behdad Eghbali first took over the club. Chelsea lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers that summer.

Those days are now over, though it would be interesting to see what kind of contract they would offer Gyokeres given that he turns 27 next month.
