Jude Bellingham produced an iconic performance at The Azteca in the early hours of Monday morning as England beat Mexico, but his class continued in the tunnel after full-time.

A brace from Bellingham set England on their way to a monumental victory over one of the three co-hosts at this summer’s World Cup, a win that has been described as England’s best since the 1966 final.

The altitude, the home support, and Jarell Quansah’s red card could have all played a part in England suffering defeat at the last 16 stage. Yet, Thomas Tuchel’s men fought on to secure a quarter-final place.

Chelsea star Reece James was pivotal from the sidelines as Harry Kane got the winner from the penalty spot, but Chelsea scouts will have been watching another player. Gilberto Mora started for Mexico.

Tijuana midfielder Mora is the second-youngest player ever to start a knockout game in the World Cup. The only player younger than Mora to start is Brazil legend Pele, which says it all about Mora’s potential.

In recent days, Chelsea have been linked with a move for 17-year-old Mora. The midfielder turns 18 in October and would not be able to play for Chelsea until then, but he could be signed and loaned out.

A £20m release clause promises to attract the majority of Europe’s best sides, especially judging by his showing at the World Cup. Chelsea fans were blown away by Mora’s technical ability on the night.

After full-time, Bellingham recognised Mora’s talent in the tunnel. After England’s celebrations, the Real Madrid star swapped shirts with Mexico’s wonderkid in what was a touch of class towards the teen.

What chance do Chelsea have of signing Gilberto Mora?

With Mora excelling on the biggest stage in a Mexico shirt, plenty of clubs will be attracted to the £20m proposition of signing one of the world’s best players at his age. Liverpool are leading the race for Mora.

Man United, Man City and Bellingham’s Real Madrid are also supposedly keeping tabs on Mora, with Bellingham perhaps working on behalf of his club ahead of potentially becoming teammates at club level.

Without European football, Chelsea’s chances of landing Mora ahead of some of Europe’s biggest sides seem unlikely. But when it comes to the world’s youngest gems, BlueCo are willing to pay a premium.
