West Ham midfielder Declan Rice reportedly has a 50/50 chance of joining Chelsea in the summer.

Journalist Ben Jacobs thinks there’s zero possibility that the 23-yerar-old star completes a transfer to Stamford Bridge during the current January transfer window.

However, he believes it’s a deal that may be on the cards for the summer.

Rice has 50/50 chance of joining Chelsea in the summer

When rating the likelihood of Rice joining Chelsea, Jacobs wrote on Twitter: “0 in January, 50 in summer!”

Jacobs recently claimed that West Ham’s captain could be available to sign for around £70million in the summer. His next move won’t be solely dependent on Champions League football, too.

Rice has grown into one of the Premier League’s most consistent and top central midfielders in recent seasons, so speculation linking Chelsea to him is a big plus.

There’s non-stop rumours around Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez potentially joining the Blues this January, with a £112million deal reportedly on the cards.

Therefore, you can understand if a Rice pursuit is put on ice until the end of the season.

Described as “brilliant” by Stuart Pearce on talkSPORT, Rice fits the profile of exactly what Chelsea need in the centre of the park.

The West Ham ace is a superb midfielder with great physical attributes to get around the pitch and break up play. He’s an athletic player as well that can drive forward with the ball and look to create.

If a £70million deal does become available, it could be a serious bargain when you look at the current state of the transfer market.
