Gleison Bremer has told Chelsea “they can wait” as the Mauricio Pochettino target commits himself to Juventus.

The Brazilian made the comments when speaking to Tuttosport.

So, what is the situation involving Chelsea and Gleison Bremer? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to Calcio Mercato – Chelsea were keen to buy the South American earlier this summer, who Juventus signed from Torino for £45m in July 2022.

A newer story from Calcio Mercato added that Chelsea were taking more of an interest in Bremer after Wesley Fofana ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

Now – however – just hours after Chelsea agreed a £39m deal to sign another central defender in Axel Disasi, the Juventus No.3 has publicly committed himself to the Italian giants.

Bremer told Tuttosport: “Yes, true. Premier League clubs wanted me but… they can wait. I want to stay at Juventus.”

Whether Chelsea moved to sign Disasi because of Bremer’s desire to stay in Turin is a mystery – in truth, the defender may have made the comments after the Blues chose the Frenchman ahead of him.

Nevertheless, all parties are happy – Chelsea found their Fofana replacement, and Bremer gets to continue playing football at Juventus, where he seems more than happy to be.

Chelsea and Bremer paths may not cross again

Realistically, this may have been Bremer’s only chance to join Chelsea – for a number of years at least.

Mauricio Pochettino now has Levi Colwill – who is just 20 years of age – Benoit Badiashile, Disasi, Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah to compete in the centre of defence.

The Argentine typically uses two central defenders rather than three, so given the ages of Chalobah, Colwill, Badiashile – who is just 22 himself – and Disasi, aged 25, Chelsea may not need to sign another marquee signing in that position for a while.

Therefore, Bremer’s chances of securing a move to Chelsea anytime soon may already be over.
