Barcelona wanted to buy one of Chelsea’s recent signings in the last transfer window.
Chelsea had a very busy summer, bringing in the likes of Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson.
And now football agent Manuel Sierra has told AS that Barcelona wanted to sign his client before his move to Stamford Bridge but could not because of their financial issues.
Out of all of Chelsea’s additions from the previous transfer window, Palmer has proven to be the best.
The England international has been in incredible form for Mauricio Pochettino‘s side. In 24 appearances, he has scored 11 goals and provided seven assists.
Barcelona were interested in Moises Caicedo before Chelsea move
According to Caicedo’s agent Sierra, Barcelona made an approach for the 22-year-old last summer.
On their failed attempt to sign his client, Sierra said: “Yes, Barca asked. Barca asked, but it was an inaccessible subject for them. It was clear. In the end, with the [Financial] Fair Play issue and so on, it was a complicated issue.
“But yes, they did ask us and well, that’s where it stayed. There was no official offer; there were only soundings. The normal thing in the markets.”

Chelsea fortunate Barcelona could not afford Moises Caicedo
Had there been no financial barriers preventing Barcelona from making a proper move for Caicedo, they probably would have won the race for him.
In terms of size, Barcelona are in the top three clubs in the world alongside rivals Real Madrid and Manchester United you would say, while they are also the dream destination for so many South Americans.
They are also in the Champions League, unlike Chelsea, so it would not have been a surprise if Caicedo, an Ecuador international, chose them over the Blues.
In the end, though, while Barcelona may have been interested in Caicedo, they were simply not in a position to sign him.
